Music fests are a peppy mix of youth, drinks, energy and of course, music. With a plethora of such fests hosted all over the world throughout the year, only some stand out. Welcome to the Astropolis Music Festival, the oldest music festival in France and a must visit if you love music.
Started in 1995, the conception of the Astropolis Music Festival is an interesting story. A group of friends hosted techno parties to celebrate the advent of a new era. Techno music was new and unexplored at that time and was basically an import from the US. This small event gave rise to the Sonic Crew and the now famous Astropolis Music Festival. It was also an act of rebellion since France was cracking down on rave parties since the prohibition in 1993. From then , to now being an official rave, this fest sure has made quite a journey.
Since 1995, every year the Astropolis festival is held in Keroual Woods near Brest. Over the years Astropolis has seen many eminent faces in music. Jeff Mills, Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier and Elisa Do Brasil. The line up gets longer and stronger every passing year. Astropolis not just hosts but has also birthed many electro legends.
A Thunder from Brest
Initially, this festival was celebrated in the summer, during the months of July and August. But 2012 saw the implementation of a new idea. A catch-up session was scheduled even in the winter season! The winter edition is held in January.
With cutting-edge techno music and a flurry of tourists, the city transforms into a living, breathing organism that is partying all the time. It is difficult to assess how many tourists actually visit the event. But the count is estimated to be almost 20,000 guests. With music touching 300 beats per minute, you just cannot stop your body from gyrating. All forms of techno music come together to put on a medley of electro music. From pulsating lights to laser shows, this festival has everything to awaken all your senses. It transports you back to the flower-power years and hippie culture.
