Aleppo’s ancient version or the Ancient City of Aleppo was considered the center of the ancient world because of various reasons. The Ancient City is situated in the center of Aleppo in Syria.
Aleppo has served as the residential place for people all around the world, being a trade city. Traders around the globe took this golden opportunity to immigrate there and settle down so that they can make the most profit through trading.
This city is one of those places which was targeted with acts of violence and invasions throughout the centuries. Due to the continuous instability of Aleppo, the residents of the city were forced to make their residences in forms of small cells. They also had to keep every district economically and socially independent. Each district was heavily influenced by the cultural and social attributes of the people living there.
Aleppo is a city of mixed cultures and architectural history because it was invaded by a number of rulers from different cultures including Romans, Mamluks and Seljuqs.
Aleppo has a market which is known as Al-Madina Souq, which is the longest covered market in the whole world. The market covers an area of 13 kilometres approximately. It is a haven for luxury goods which are imported, like raw silk, dyes, coffee, spices. They are imported from various countries across continents.
In the market one can also find local products. The markets also provided accommodation to the people who came for trading. It let them store their products in the roadside inns which were locally known as khans, or even keep them scattered in the souqs.
